UHS: Weekly News and Notes, November 7
Good afternoon,
We have a few updates from UHS this week:
Postseason athletics
Congratulations are in order for our cheerleading team, who last week captured the CMAC divisional and Grand Championship at the conference championships. The team will next compete at the regional championships! In other sports, girls soccer advanced to the round of 16 with wins over Minuteman Tech and Leicester, defeating Leicester on the road with a dramatic victory in Penalty Kicks. The girls face South Hadley on the road this coming Monday, with opening kickoff scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
In boys soccer, the team defeated Littleton by a 4-1 score and will face Rockland in the round of 16 this Sunday, with a 6:00 p.m. start. Field hockey plays today at 3:45 with an opportunity to advance to the state semifinals. They host Scituate, having already defeated Apponequet and Marlborough to advance to the round of 8. Football will host a first round game as well, as the team faces Blue Hills Regional Vocational High School on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
Finally, Cross Country will compete at the divisional championships being held at Devens Willard Field Complex this Saturday, with both the boys and girls teams looking to take home medalists at the Division III championships.
Good luck to all our Spartans!
Post-Secondary Readiness Survey
As part of our continued reflections on the work we do on balancing content mastery with skill development, we asking for parent feedback on some of our programming here at UHS. This survey has only about 15 questions, can be answered for each student if families have more than one child at UHS or a recent grad in 2023-2025. It can be accessed here.
Music at Plymouth State University Choral Festival
Our music students participated this week at a choral festival held at Plymouth State University. The students were all provided a number of music numbers, then left early Thursday morning, spent the day rehearsing, and then put on a concert at the end of the day. The students had an awesome day!

Blackstone Valley Regional Technical High School Application Process
For students in grade 8 who are considering applying to BVT, the process has started, and we are also working on components of this with our school counseling program. In terms of grade 8 students, students who are continuing an application to BVT should check their email and Parent Square for the BVT Teacher Request Form. Students must select three current teachers in whose classes they are performing well. Once the form is submitted, Ms. Carlise will handle the remainder of the recommendation process. Please note that physical letters of recommendation are not required for BVT’s application. Any questions can be directed to Ms. Carlise (lcarlise@uxbridge.k12.ma.us).
There are questions that come up every year about the process; this year, with state changes to the process and moving toward a lottery, we are not certain of the implications for our grade 8 class. We do urge families to keep an open line of communication with us, and we will share any information that we have from BVT with interested folks.
Parent Conferences
Just a reminder that next week will have a half-day on Friday, November 14 for Teacher Conferences. Messages to schedule appointments have been shared by teachers in the past week.
Have a great weekend!
