UHS: Welcome Back Message
Good afternoon!
The past couple of weeks have seen a surge of activity at our school, as we prepare for the onset of another school year. While there are obviously a number of details that go into ensuring a school year can start smoothly, there are a few things that we wish to highlight for students and families. Some of this information may be new and so please take care to read carefully.
1. Student drop off take place at the edge of the student lot. When families come down our driveway if not on a bus, they turn left around the Press Box area, and proceed through the student parking lot dropping off at the corner where the student and faculty edges of the parking lot meet. Parents then turn right to exit. There should not be any drop off in front of the building or in the faculty lot. This is a significant hazard.
This short video shows the direction that people should follow. Dropoff Procedure
For students who are being picked up after school, parents and guardians, or other vehicles that are waiting for rides, should be in the student lot, not idling in the road that connects the middle of the lot and certainly not in front of the building. It is important that buses leave first.
2. In addition to welcoming our eighth grade students, we have nearly 50 additional new registrations joining us this year, including some students who are transferring from other communities and those who have lived in Uxbridge but attended other schools last year. Some classes are going to be big, as I shared earlier this summer. We have done our best to meet student needs and follow interests based on electives and other student plans.
We may not be able to accommodate any further schedule change requests. When students arrive tomorrow, they should be following the day one schedule and reporting directly to their a-block class.
3. We are aware that many students have been waiting listed for the bus. We also know that there is no real safe walking route to the high school. If you are a family that registered for the bus but does not plan on using it, we would appreciate knowing, as most of our buses now have a waitlist. We will be working on this over the next couple of weeks, because we are aware of the challenges that this poses.
The start of the new year always brings with it much optimism and excitement, and we look forward to being your partners on the journey. Please reach out if we can be helpful.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rubin
