UHS: Weekly News & Notes
Good morning.
We have a few updates from UHS this week, mostly around the first meetings of the year for several student clubs & activities.
Drama Auditions
Auditions for the fall production of Ride the Cyclone were this week. If any students want to be involved in a non-cast role, reach out to Mr. Konnerth in Room D150.
Dungeons & Dragons
Adventure awaits! Dungeons & Dragons Club is looking for new members. If interested, see Mr. Avery or Mr. Lajoie, and the group meets Thursdays after school in the library.
Tri-M: Music Honor Society
Tri-M Music Honor Society is looking for new members. This opportunity allows students to dive further into the music community through service. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible for membership. See chapter president Annabel Smutok or Mr. Konnerth for more information, or students can stop by room D150 for more information.
DECA
On Tuesday, September 15 during flex block, there will be an organizational/informational meeting for DECA, the high school business club for students who want to showcase their ideas and compete against students from across the state or country. If students cannot make the 9/15 meeting, they can see Mr. Guerra with any questions.
Yearbook
The first staff meeting for the Yearbook will be Tuesday, September 15 from 2-3:30 in D153. Any student who is interested or has questions can also see Ms. Charpentier in the school library.
ESports
The Esports team had its first informational meeting for the upcoming season of Pokemon Unite. Interested students who did not attend the meeting can see team captain Samuel Weeks or the team's coach, Mr. Booth.
Active Minds
The Active Minds/Mending Spartan Minds Mental Health awareness club had its first meeting today as well. Interested students can see Ms. Tobin for more information.
Homecoming
UHS will have its Homecoming Week from September 21-26. Information about the Spirit Days will be shared next week, as the Student Council had its first organizational meeting last night. The Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday, September 26, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Tickets will be on sale from 9/21-9/25 during lunches; tickets are not sold at the door.
Grade 8 Elections
We met with our Grade 8 students this week. Information was shared about class officer positions, and nomination forms are due to Ms. Bernard next week. Mr. Konnerth and Mr. Booth are serving as co-advisors to the class.
College and Career Visits
Student Picture Day
Picture day will take place on Wednesday, October 7. Hard copy forms are available in the main office, and an electronic copy is attached to this message.
UBA Baseball Tournament
In Massachusetts, the School Council is a representative body, co-chaired by the Principal, that helps drive School Improvement Planning and advising on matters of procedure, policy, and budget. The School Council is comprised of educators, parents, community members, and students, and the UHS School Council typically meets monthly. While meetings tend to be virtual to accommodate people's schedules, we have had in-person meetings on occasion.
We are writing to see if any parents/guardians/caregivers are interested in serving on the School Council, as well as to see if there are any individuals willing to serve the role of "community representative." These tend to be folks who may not have students in the building but can represent additional interests for the school.
If anyone is interested, please reach out to Dr. Rubin.

Football Season Opener
The football team opens its season tonight at 7:00. UHS students have free admission; parents and guardians can purchase tickets through the GoFan app. Information can be found at this link.
Finally, to those who may be celebrating tonight and this weekend, we wish our Jewish families and friends a Happy New Year., as the Jewish New Year begins on Friday, September 11 at sundown.
